Product development of new components
Our in-house department for product development always works really closely with customers. Here, our aim is to design products that can be produced cost-effectively on the basis of customers' specifications for individual components and to build the appropriate models and prototypes of these products before production starts. For this reason, our product development team uses the latest CAD systems such as Siemens NX7.5 and CATIA V5, Autodesk Inventor (3D), and Auto CAD (2D) - which are also used by our customers - to avoid any compatibility problems or issues when data needs to be exchanged or compared. The data connection takes place using the Odette File Transfer Protocol or KVS (design data management system). Odette and KVS are designed especially for the automotive industry, which means that we can also exclude interface problems during collaboration with customers.
For processes such as drawing simulation and analysis, durability analysis, and natural frequency analysis, we use the finite element method (FEM). FEM supports our strength simulation and deformation investigation work for products being developed.
The Automotive Center Südwestfalen (acs) in Attendorn is particularly important to us when it comes to product development. The acs competence centre is an amalgamation of well-known companies from the region's automotive sector. Its aim is to provide new impetus for lightweight construction and e-mobility in the automotive industry through joint research and cooperative development work. As a member, HMT is actively involved in the work of the acs. We are able use its test facilities and equipment for our own purposes. The facilities available include an electromagnetic test bench, environment simulation test bench, modal analysis test bench, and materials laboratory.
At HMT, product development is closely linked with process development, allowing us to test technologies and innovative production methods and integrate them into production.
