E-mobility - the future is now

In particular, this is true for private traffic using passenger cars, but increasingly it applies to commercial vehicles such as trucks and buses, too. HMT sees this technology of the future as a challenge and opportunity, since e-vehicles require a greater number of our lightweight-construction components. For example, more parts produced by us are now installed in the e-Golf than in the conventional Golf with a combustion engine. E-vehicles will bring about a significant change in the business model of suppliers, and we are facing this challenge with innovative solutions.

An e-vehicle has a considerably higher requirement of parts, particularly in the areas of auxiliary heaters, battery holders, and sensors. Here - especially when the big topic of the future, autonomous driving, is taken into account - we expect much positive growth, and this is why we are particularly focusing on the expansion of our portfolio for this segment in our product and process development.

Above all, our experience and our technical pool of equipment for lightweight construction and joining technology stand us in good stead here. There is a vital need to compensate for the heavy batteries in an e-vehicle by making further advances in chassis construction. In collaboration with manufacturers and our network partners - for example from Automotive Center Südwestfalen - we develop components and cost-effective methods that enable significant reductions in vehicle weight.
